About me

Hi! My name is Dr. Katherine Alvarez, and I’m a Licensed Clinical Psychologist who specializes in providing therapy to individuals looking for support with anxiety, life transitions, OCD, self-esteem, social and relational stress, culture and identity, parent coaching, and ADHD.

I received my training at various public and private institutions across New York and California- including elementary schools, therapeutic day school programs, community mental health clinics, and foster care agencies, where I’ve provided individual therapy, group therapy, and parent coaching.

My background has had a significant impact on how I navigate the mental health field. Subsequently, I’ve developed a special interest in exploring intergenerational trauma and how it affects the way individuals move through and understand the world around them. Navigating one’s own cultural identity can be a deeply personal process, and I believe it is a privilege to join clients along their journey of self-understanding and exploration.

In my practice, I strive to create an open, collaborative, and non-judgmental therapy space, emphasizing the importance of self-compassion so that clients can feel like they can show up as their most authentic selves. I approach treatment through a client-centered, and relational lens, meaning that I believe the therapeutic relationship is a vital piece of therapeutic comfort and growth. From there, I utilize various therapeutic approaches, such as: ERP, CBT, and psychodynamic therapy to support skill-building and insight.

Life has its ebbs and flows, and my goal is to be a source of support and grounding for the individuals I work with.

I look forward to meeting with you!
